Heartbreaking Stories...

Last night I was watching the TV show Hoarders on A&E. It's a show about people with the disorder, hoarding. It is an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder where people tend to collect an absurd amount of "meaningless" objects, that results in an unsafe and unhealthy living environment. It's quite disturbing to know that someone's lifestyle could be like that. After last nights episode, I will never watch this show again.

It was about this women in her late 50s living on her own, who was clearly incapable of taking care of herself. She was on the verge of being evicted from her home because of how toxic her house had become. For a woman who could not take care of herself, she owned 30 cats and I'm not exaggerating, 30! This woman was insane. She couldn't get around her own house and had to climb over piles of junk to get to any room in her house. Her cats were walking on the counters and stoves and defecating everywhere. It was completely and utterly unsanitary. Watching these animals in this kind of environment upset me so much. How could you let these poor innocent creatures live in a house that was not even close to a lovable home. One of the vets on the show made a good point. He said, "having two cats that you play with and love is acceptable, but collecting cats like you collect junk?" Oh No. This made me so mad. Professionals came in to take control of this situation and gathered all the cats to bring them to a vet to treat them for all the diseases they had contracted from living in her home. As they went around the house to gather all 30 cats, they ended up finding 12 cats that had died because of the poor living conditions. The worst part is that they actually showed this is TV. I screamed, shut off the TV. I couldn't imagine how anyone could ever let this happen. I couldn't believe they would show the cats who died on TV. It broke my heart to know that someone could be so careless to let this happen. I ran over to Simba who was sleeping on his couch and I just held him as I cried. I know this sounds pathetic, but animals are the most innocent creatures. I will never watch that show again knowing that people are so screwed up that they not only let their life become a toxic waste, but put others at the risk of disease and death.

Treat others as you would want to be treated.

The More the Merrier!

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I haven't written anything in a while, I've been pretty busy. Simba is doing great, just in case you were wondering :) I have a couple funny stories about Sim's from this weekend. He never ceases to amaze me. Over the weekend, a few friends and I were staying up late to play a game of Cranium, for those who don't know what that is, it is the best game EVER! It is kind of like charades and pictionary, but so much more involved. It was about 2:30AM and you would think most cats would be sleeping, not Simba. He came up to the kitchen table and sat on one of the empty chairs and put his paws ON the table to sit with us. He was sitting with us for a good 1/2 hour.

Always wants to be the center of attention!

He then jumped down and went to sit on his couch. Yes, he has his own couch. He was sitting on the couch with his eyes open staring at the TV! What cat watches TV?? CRAZY man.

(Here's a pic I took this week of him sleeping on his couch throne!)

A few days ago I came home from my internship. I was sitting on my couch when I heard Simba pawing at the window. I turn to him and told him that he was not allowed outside. Simba was staring out the window, which made me think there were raccoons outside, again. I went over to the window and sitting there is another cat! ut oh! Simba jumped down to the glass slider and glaring at him on the other side was this beautiful calico cat (type of female cat with many different colors in their fur). I could tell Simba just wanted to play with the other feline. :)
He held his paw up to the window to proclaim that he comes in peace!

The other cat however, was meowing and growling at poor Sims! Her tail was poofy and her ears were back, but not Simba's... he wanted a girlfriend! It was the funniest thing because Simba is a bit of an aggressive cat because of his strong personality traits, but at heart is the sweetest thing and just wants a friend to love. The next few days the calico cat returned for Simba to play the flirting game with through the glass window. My roommates and I ended going outside to meet her and she turned out to be the sweetest thing ever!

We're not sure if she has a home, since she doesn't have collar (always put a collar on your animal if they go outside!) I'm assuming she does have a home because when we give her food she doesn't eat it. Oh how I wish we could take her in too, I just love animals!

Check Back Soon!
I promise I'll be adding much more!

Adopting a Furry Best Friend :)

Hello Again!
So I was watching TV the other day and saw this commercial about Tidy Cats and thought it fit purrfectly into my blog! :) You can see on the package of Tidy Cats that it says Scope for Multiple Cats, which is great because that is what everyone needs, to adopt more animals! Animals have brothers and sisters too! It's sad to think that I couldn't take in all of Simbie's family...But I just think of what happiness my roommates and I have brought Simba now that he has a loving home <3

I thought the commercial was a cute and clever way  to relay the message about adopting animals. It shows the love and care that a family will provide for the kittens and also the happiness that is brought to the little girl now that she has a best friend. I hope people start to consider adopting animals because the conditions that the animals might have been brought up in is so sad to even think about...

Check back soon!

Orange You Glad You Finally Met Simba?!

Hello Everyone!

I'm starting to get you acquainted with, Simba, so I figured the best way of doing so is to tell you about some of the hysterical stories of when he was a young orange lad. When we first took Simba in everyone loved him;  even the cat haters and the allergics, literally everyone. He was such a cute orange kitten that fit into the palm of your hand. Simba was surely a people person, just like me. :) He enjoyed everyone's company :)

When he was only a couple weeks old, he was still becoming familiarized with our house and everyone in it. He was so young that still didn't even know his own refection -- unlike humans where it takes up to 18 months to identitfy our own reflection -- Simba was at the stage of development.  One day, my roommates and I caught Simba looking into the full length mirror and running to attack the "other" orange cat that was staring back at him. It was the funniest thing ever and wish I had it on camera because we he could have easily won America's Funniest Home Videos.

After doing an array of adorable acts like this, he started to grow into a young frenzy feline. He began to venture into a new world, experimenting with his mischievous side. This was when we first noticed his dog-like behavior. He would play fetch all the time! And he always wanted the scraps of our food because cat food was too bland for him and his unique purrsonality. One evening I got home from working at Casey's Grill and Bar and sat down to enjoy my takeout dinner (penne con pollo, soo yummmy) Well, I sure wasn't the only one who loved it because when I left he room for maybe 5 minutes, I came back to Simba sitting on the table licking his chomps. He ate almost the ENTIRE meal! Well, there goes my din din. I didn't think in a million years a cat would like pasta and chicken smothered in garlic sauce. He sure has taste for good food!

A few days later, my roommate got an ugly pink stuffed flamingo for her birthday. We always caught Simba playing with it so we gave it to him Simba and laughed as he played fetch with it. It was hysterical because the flamingo was literally bigger than he was. When he tried to carry it was...ehh just watch the video clip below. You'll see... What we thought to be a harmless game of catch, slowly grew into a complete obsession with his pink flamingo.

Simba grew very fond of his pink toy and it soon became his release. Literally.
Whoa! Sorry to show such a graphic video BUT it was so funny how much he cherished that pink flamingo. We got him neutered and threw that thing away ASAP, so don't worry he doesn't do that anymore. Thank God.

His innocence has redeemed himself as you can see with these adorable photos :)

Now, his days consist of sleeping, eating, playing, and snuggling with his favorites...
Ahhh what a life! :)

Keep checking back for more!
xoxo, goodnight

The True Tail of Simba

Meowllow Everyone!

Just thought I would start by telling all of you the story about the little orange man we adopted last year. It was the beginning of September when my roommate Alexis had her friends visit from her hometown in NY. One of her friends ended up bringing a little orange kitten with her :( She found him outside by himself near her home in NY. Immediately, my roommates and I fell in love with him. He was the cutest kitten we had ever seen! Alexis's friend ended up asking if we wanted to keep him because she had a dog and knew they wouldn't get along like they do in the movies :-/ we obviously accepted the offer!

How could anyone resist this adorable little face!

He didn't have a name, so we needed to think of something that would fit his cute little orange face. As a kitten, Simba had some gastrointestinal issues, which caused him to fart.... a lot haha! No, but on a seriously note, it was horrid. Some of my roommates wanted to name him Tutti, but my Allie and I knew that was NOT a manly name for him, especially because he was going to grow up to be a strong lion and Tutti was a wimpy name. One night Allie woke me up in a deep dark sleep, looked at me as she held the orange cat into the air and said, "His name will be Simba." ...It was purrfect.

Little did we know that he was going to live up to his furocious name, Simba

A year later, he has grown into a very handsome young man with beautiful orange fur painted with faint tan-ish/white stripes, white mane under his chin and cute little white paws. I know what you're thinking...that all cats are the same, not this one. He is a unique tabby cat that is the man of a household full of four beautiful females who are in love with him! :)

What a photogenic cat he is

Come back soon to read some of his wild and adventurous Simba stories!

A is for How Much I Adore Animals

Even though my topic might sound a bit off the charts, I have decided not to limit my blog to one specific furry creature. I will blog about my thoughts and voice my opinion about ALL furry creatures! :) I have always been an animal lover and a craZy cat lady, so I have decided to take my story about adopting Simba and expand upon it in a way for my readers to understand why everyone should care for animals the way I do. This way people can learn why animal rights are so important and learn from my own experiences to why adopting animals is so important.

You may be wondering why I am a credible source for this blog. Aside from the many Communication presentations I have done about animal rights, I have also gone to my local animal shelter to play with the cats and dogs. If I could, I would honestly adopt so many more animals. Unrealistic I know, but one day I will adopt more animals who are in need of a warm homes and they too will become my furry best friend, just as Simba did :)

Topic of Simba!

The other day I was trying to think about my topic for my enthusiast blog and I could honestly not think of what I could write endlessly about for three months. Then it dawned on me. I am completely obsessed with my craZy cat, Simba :) My roommates and I took him in this time last year.

He is now about a year and a month old and has become the most entertaining orange cat anyone could ever meet. I have plenty of hysterical stories, TONS of adorable pictures, and even video footage of him...Well, this really makes me sound like a craZy cat lady, BUT seriously you need to meet him and you will through my blog. You will come to realize why I decided to write my entire blog about him. Hope you're looking forward to getting to know one of my furry best friends! :)
